Youth Needs Analysis

The City of Armadale, in partnership with the South Metropolitan Public Health Unit (Armadale Division) and Matrix Consultancy Group undertook a Youth Needs Analysis for the region. The purpose of the project was to gather information on the views and aspirations of youth regarding physical, social and emotional issues that affect them. The findings were compiled into a comprehensive report that created a detailed profile of the region’s young people. It is being used by organisations in determining priorities for service delivery and also to guide the development of programs and projects aimed at youth in the City of Armadale.

Armadale Youth Activity Area

Armadale is in the midst of significant developmental and population expansion. There is extensive support for increased youth facilities in the region, particularly a centrally-located Youth Activity Area. The City of Armadale's Youth Plan reflects Council's commitment to young people and supports the Youth Precinct Study in determining the practicability, achievability and sustainability of a centrally-located Youth Activity Area in Armadale.

The Youth Activity Area is an on-going project and there is growing support to see it come to fruition. Currently a suitable location is being researched. The project has been endorsed by Council and outside financial funding applications have and are being sought. The City has approved in principle around one third of the funds required and the State Government’s Outer Metropolitan Community Fund has also contributed a significant amount to the project.

The City of Armadale's Youth Advisory Committee has long been advocating for a centrally-located Youth Activity Area in Armadale. The committee believes it is vital to have the facility in a central location to create optimum access for young people, enable proximity to support services such as food outlets, amenities, public toilets and transport, and allow for passive surveillance.
