Your Community

People with a Disability

While the City of Armadale does not deliver services directly, it actively advocates for and supports the delivery of disability services by local agencies and organisations. The City is committed to working to create an inclusive community that is aware of the access needs of all its members including people with disabilities.

City of Armadale Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

In order to effectively respond to the needs of people with a disability living and working in the Armadale area, the City is proud to be the first Council in WA to have developed a Disability Services Plan, in 1995. Thanks to E-QUAL consultants and input received from local residents, community groups, disability agencies, other government authorities as well as City staff and Council, the Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2007-2011(PDF 187kb) is regularly reviewed and updated.

You're Welcome Project

An assessment of local Council facilities and local businesses will provide clear access information to people of various abilities. The project aims to enable people with disabilities, their families and carers to participate in community life by encouraging community and businesses to make their services and facilities accessible. The expected completion date is November 2009, with information made available on this website. Stage 2 of the Your Welcome project will be completed at the end of 2009 with local business partners.

The City of Armadale is currently coordinating the You're Welcome WA Access Initiative developed by the Disability Services Commission (DSC) in partnership with the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA). The City's project provides an opportunity to provide clear information about access to local facilities and amenities to people of all ages and abilities living in or visiting the locality.
