Your Community

Arts and Culture

Culture can be defined as everything that contributes to our quality of life and that of others in our community. It includes our history, heritage, language, symbols, images, ideas, recreation, way of life and aspirations.

Art can be a creative expression of our culture as demonstrated through mediums such as painting, pottery, sculpture, photography, dance, theatre and music. The City of Armadale links culture with the arts as a strategy to strengthen the community's skills while enhancing its sense of ownership and pride.

The City has a Cultural Plan 2004-2009 (PDF 3.8mb) that aims to enhance, nurture, acknowledge, develop, preserve, maintain and promote its diverse community. The plan is a 'living' document that enables the community to participate in a shared vision for Armadale - a City that is set for unprecedented growth in the coming decades.

City to establish directory of local artists and art groups

Locally-based artists and art groups are being encouraged to lodge their details with the City of Armadale for its new artists’ directory.

The database is aimed at listing all arts activity occurring in the region. All artists and art groups operating within the City of Armadale are eligible to register and detailing details of local artists and their medium/s; community art groups and the venues where they meet; art classes and their times, dates etc; plus information about local art materials supplies.

Once collated, this information will be available on the City of Armadale’s website.
