Libraries
The City of Armadale operates public libraries in Armadale, Kelmscott and Seville Grove. The City also manages the Birtwistle Local Studies Library which is located within the Minnawarra Precinct in Armadale. Click on the library name for current opening hours and locations.
The free public library service is part of a state wide network that operates between local government authorities and the Library and Information Service of Western Australia.

Membership
Library membership is free and anyone can join.
To become a library member you must produce proof of your current address for example a drivers' license, rates notice, pension card or bill. We also ask that you provide an alternative contact address. If you are under the age of 18 years old a parent or guardian's signature is required.
Library Online Service
The Library Online Service allows users to search the City's catalogue for items, renew or request library items, check which books you have borrowed and find out which items have recently arrived in the City's libraries.
You can also reserve a library computer for internet research using the Library Online Service.
Borrowing
The following rules apply to the borrowing of library items:
- your library membership card must be produced when borrowing items
- you may borrow up to eight items at a time
- items can be loaned for a period of three weeks
- items may be renewed twice, provided there are no requests on the item
- you may renew items online or by telephoning any branch
- items can be borrowed from, and returned to, any of the City's three branches during opening hours
- replacement cards incur a cost of $3.50
Fines are charged at 20c per day per item, to a maximum of $2 per item. Borrowing privileges will be revoked if the total amount owed reaches $10. If you owe more than $10 you must pay the entire amount before borrowing privileges are reinstated.

- books (fiction and non-fiction)
- reference material, not for loan, but may be consulted in the library
- large print books
- magazines and newspapers
- talking book cassettes, CDs and MP3s
- CD ROMs
- DVDs and videos
- books in a range of languages
- language learning resources
- junior and young adult collections
- a car manual collection
- Council Minutes and information
- Jigsaws and games, available only at Seville Grove Library
- paperback swap
- community information noticeboards and special interest displays
- access to Australian Bureau of Statistics information
- engraving equipment

Librarians have access to over 2 million items located in public libraries throughout Western Australia. If we don't have the information or item you require in one of our libraries we will try and get it for you. Alternatively you can check the availability of items via the City's Library Online Service.
If we stock an item but it is already out on loan you can reserve it online and we will notify you when it becomes available.
Calendar of Events
In addition to the thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and magazines on offer the libraries also boast a jam packed Calendar of Events - Spring 2009 (PDF 1.38MB).
Activities at the libraries include activities for new parents, such as Better Beginnings Parent Workshops and Baby Rhyme Time Sessions.
A range of fun and exciting activities are also on offer for children.These include storytime sessions, a Ripper Readers Club and numerous school holiday activities.
Multicultural activities, educational talks and workshops, writing groups and internet sessions.
Family Reading Centre
A special area has been set aside at the Seville Grove Library as a Family Reading Centre. The area is filled with educational toys, books and other resources targeting early literacy and parenting.
Groups are welcome to come along and play in the area or can arrange to have a librarian read stories and undertake a related activity.
Home delivery service
A home delivery service is available to residents who are unable to access library services due to an ongoing illness or disability. Staff use information provided by the reader to select library items. Items are delivered to their homes on a fortnightly basis. For more information contact the Seville Grove Library.
Seniors services
The City's libraries offer a range of services for seniors. These include Books on Wheels, bulk loans and a seniors' Christmas Party.
Meeting facilities
A meeting room is available for hire at Seville Grove Library during opening hours.
Hire charges are outlined below:

Other services
Other services on offer at the City's libraries include access to:
- a Justice of the Peace on Wednesdays from 10am-1pm at Kelmscott Library
- photocopiers
- a laminating machine
- a sales table of discarded or donated stock
- the internet for free (for research purposes)
- library bags
Free Tutoring Help Online
School students in the city of Armadale can now receive free tutoring help online at the library or at home, through an innovative new service.
- "yourtutor" provides help in English, Mathematics, Science, Assignment Research and Study Skills.
- Service is available to school students in Years 4-12 between 4pm and 8pm Monday - Friday.
- Students connect to a qualified, expert tutor, in a one-to-one online 'chat room' style classroom.
All Tutors are qualified, trained in online teaching techniques, and have a current "Working with Children" check, so parents can be assured their children are in a safe, professional environment.

Microsoft Tutorials
Free access to Microsoft Tutorials:
City of Armadale Libraries now provides you with free access to short tutorials for several Microsoft applications, via our Library Webpage.
These programs take you through a variety of screens showing details of ‘how to’ perform many of the functions in the Microsoft programs.
Programs include: Windows Vista, MS Word, Excel, Publisher, MovieMaker, Photoshop, Front Page and more.
