History House Museum
History House Museum is located within the Minnawarra Precinct in Jull Street in Armadale and is open four days a week.
History House Museum aims ‘to enable the community to realise its identity and assist in planning future direction, through understanding and reflection on its past.’
The key roles of History House Museum are to collect, conserve, research and exhibit items that relate to the history of the City of Armadale
In 1967 the Armadale-Kelmscott Historical Society was formed to help preserve the district’s history. This dedicated community group collected hundreds of documents, objects and photographs from Armadale’s past. The historical society spent the next nine years raising money to build History House Museum, which was opened on 25 April, 1976, by the Governor-General Sir Paul Hasluck.
The museum was managed by the historical society for 27 years. In 2003 the Armadale-Kelmscott Historical Society passed on the management of the museum to the City of Armadale.
The City of Armadale continues the dedicated work of the historical society and endeavours to preserve the district’s history today and into the future.

History House Museum is closed on Good Friday, Easter Monday and Christmas Day.
What’s on Display?
History House Museum has a number of permanent, temporary and online exhibitions available. Each exhibition examines a different aspect of life in the district including farming, domestic life, local government, early settlement and Nyoongar traditional culture.
Educational programs for schools
History House Museum welcomes visits from school groups. The Museum endeavours to provide a series of useful lesson plans and information sheets to assist educators teaching local history in their classes. Each lesson plan and information sheet links in with the Western Australian curriculum and be designed so work can be completed in class to complement a visit to the museum.
The Local Government Lesson Plan explores the importance of local government to the everyday lives of the residents of Armadale. It examines why we have laws, the different levels of government and the story of local government in the City of Armadale. Lesson plans are available for middle childhood and early adolescence classes.
