Building Licences

A building licence is required for the construction of a new building or the alteration, repair or extension of an existing building. Building licences are also required for the construction of minor structures such as swimming pools and spas, decking, shade sails and front fences. If you are unsure whether or not your proposed building works will require Council approval, please contact us.

In general, most building applications for minor works require the following:

  • A completed Building application - form 2 (PDF 83kB)
  • Two copies of your site plan to scale (1:200) showing the:
    • Location of your house and other structures on the block
    • Location of the new structure
    • Measurement from the boundaries
    • Location of septic tanks and leach drains (if applicable)
  • Two copies of construction details to scale (1:100) showing:
    • Specifications
    • A structural engineer's certification
    • A detailed floor plan and elevations
    • Cross-section details

You may also require planning approval or other information depending on the application. Forms and information can be found on the planning section of the website.  In certain areas within the City, approval is required from the Armadale Redevelopment Authority. The Armadale Redevelopment Authority's contact number is (08) 9399 0000.
